‘All directors and shareholders who received more than £5000 in dividends during the tax year 2016/2017 will have to pay an additional tax charge of 7.5% (basic rate taxpayers) or 32.5% (higher rate taxpayers) by31 January 2018. This has to be done by way of self-assessment for which a unique taxpayer reference is required. Stripped Back MTD delayed until 2020.

Paymaster General Mel Stride last month confirmed that the requirements for digital quarterly reporting were being stripped back to cover only VAT in revised roadmap for Making Tax Digital (MTD)

Those above the VAT threshold will have to start filing with MTD compatible software from April 2019, but small businesses below the threshold “will not be asked to keep digital records, or to update HMRC quarterly, for other taxes until at least 2020,” the Treasury said.
